Impact for Workers Collaborative Event in Leicester

Greetings from Leicester! On 12 June, more than 40 stakeholders including manufacturers, NGOs, community support organisations, Brands and universities came together for a significant Worker Impact Event to address the pressing challenges and opportunities within Leicester’s garment industry and the calls to action to rally behind.
The event’s “Worker Journey” segment immersed participants in the complexities of accessing remediation. Collaborators including Fab-L, The Fashion Technology Academy and Labour Behind the Label explored what are the key components of an ethical apparel model for Leicester. ASOS and Fast Forward ignited discussions on the advantages of ethical UK manufacturing and fostering collaborative efforts among brands. The University of Manchester and Fab-L discussed essential resources for empowering garment worker voices, while Transform Trade and Labour Behind the Label deliberated on strategies to mobilise local and national governments for decisive action. All stakeholders were invited into the discussions to share their own insights and suggestions for collaboration and improvement.

LEGISLATIVE AND INDUSTRY NEWS
Home Office confirms changes to the
EU Settlement Scheme
From 21 May, the duration of pre-settled status extensions were extended from 2 to 5 years, and the expiry date of pre-settled status will be removed from digital profiles used for online status checks related to Right to Work, Right to Rent, and other verifications. The changes will ensure that citizens can continue to prove their rights easily, and bring greater clarity for those required to check immigration status.
